✨ When I Am Afraid
Psalm 56:3 — “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”
Some fears are loud.
Some fears are quiet.
And some fears don’t look like fear at all —
they look like tummy aches before school,
tight shoulders at bedtime,
or a little voice saying, “I don’t want to go.”
Psalm 56:3 gives us a simple, beautiful truth for moments like these:
📖 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3 (NIV)

One sentence.
Ten words.
A lifetime of comfort.
Let’s sit with this verse today and follow a small story about courage, trust, and God’s gentle presence.
💛 The Night the Storm Was Too Loud
Imagine a little child—maybe like yours—lying in bed as thunder shakes the windows.
The room feels darker.
The shadows seem bigger.
And suddenly, the brave heart they had during the day feels very, very small.
The child whispers,
“I’m scared…”
But then, they remember something from Sunday school,
something so tiny yet so powerful that it slips right into the fear like a warm light:
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”
They pull the blanket closer, take a small breath, and whisper again—this time to God:
“Please stay with me.”
And He does.
Not by removing the storm,
but by holding their heart through it.
💛 Fear Doesn’t Mean You’re Not Brave
This verse never says,
“Don’t be afraid.”
Instead, it says:
“WHEN you are afraid…”
Which means:
✨ God expects us to face scary things.
✨ God doesn’t shame us for feeling fear.
✨ God invites us to trust Him in the fear, not after it’s gone.
Courage isn’t about having no fear.
Courage is remembering Who stands with you inside it.
💛 Little Ways Kids Can Practice Trust
Here are gentle, everyday ways a child can “put their trust in God”:
🌙 At bedtime:
“God, please stay with me tonight.”
🎒 Before school:
“Help me when I feel nervous.”
🏫 During a test:
“Please remind me I’m not alone.”
⚽ At a new activity:
“Give me courage to try.”
These tiny prayers become tiny anchors—
keeping their heart steady even when the world shakes a little.
💛 And Moms… This Verse Is For You Too
Sometimes grown-up fear looks different:
Bills
Schedules
Health worries
Kids’ futures
Loneliness
Overwhelm
Silent prayers whispered in the kitchen
Psalm 56:3 isn’t just a children’s verse.
It’s a mother’s verse.
A businesswoman’s verse.
A late-night-cleaning-the-toys verse.
A “God, I’m trying my best—please help me breathe” verse.
🌟 What We Take Away Today
✨ Fear is human.
✨ Trust is a choice.
✨ God welcomes both.
When we say,
“I am afraid, but I trust You,”
we are stepping into the safest place that exists—
God’s steady, loving hands.
🙏 A Gentle Prayer
“Dear God,
when we feel afraid,
help us remember that You are near.
Hold our hearts,
quiet our worries,
and give us courage one small moment at a time.
Amen.”
